Pair of Hand-Carved Hindu Temple Struts
An exquisite pair of hand-carved Hindu wooden temple struts, mounted on stone bases, from the 19th century. This pair of antique temple struts from S. India are magnificently carved with depiction of a scaled elephant kneeling serenely on a tower of lotus flowers, with figure seated at front top of head. On each side of the carving, most likely a representation of Ganesha with his elephant head. There is a mostly neutral coloration to these pieces, with pops of a light apricot found in various areas. This pair of 19th century Hindu temple struts would be stunning flanking a doorway, or perhaps a fireplace.
