Italian Putti Carved Candlesticks, 19th C.
An Italian pair of carved wood putti decorations from the 19th century. This antique pair of candle holders from Italy, each hand-carved, depicts a statue of a Putto, commonly known as a Cherub, featuring a male child raising one hand above his head holding the top of a horn (where candle would be placed atop) and with the other resting against the bottom, and the classical robe which lightly drapes the groin area (but those cheeky buttocks remain exposed!). The wood has a lovely old patina. These 19th century Putti are each raised on rounded medallion style platform bases and stand approximately 20 inches in height.
