Early 18th C. Chest w/ Secretary, Italy

An Italian commode with discretely hidden upper butler's desk from the early 18th century. This fabulous antique piece from Italy is as beautiful as it is functional. The secretary has been cleverly hidden behind the top faux-front drawer, which lays down to make up a shelf and reveals four small drawers and a cubbie for storage within. Four full sized drawers make up the lower section of this chest, each fitted with a pair of pulls and an elaborate escutcheon set at center. Canted front side posts are carved with column details. This piece has a thickly molded base, raised on rail/platform feet at either end with front having a nicely carved bracket detail which gives a pleasant lift from the ground along the front side. This early 19th century Italian chest with secretary would be a striking piece for a bedroom or study!
