18th C. French Louis XVI Tall Secretaire
A beautiful French Louis XVI carved-cherry wood tall secretarie cabinet, with original leather on desk, from the 18th century. This antique "secretaire an abattant" from France features an arched top bonnet over an upper recessed bookcase with elegant recessed panel front doors, a mid-section with drop-front writing desk, and lower case which houses six raised-panel drawers and a single carved-panel door with storage (three stacked down either side flanking the door, recessed within their center). The lower cabinet has a soft serpentine shape which carries through from the top lip and down the drawer-fronts. The cabinet is presented upon six bulb-carved feet. The fall front opens to accommodate a nicely sized writing surface (with original leather writing pad) with interior housing six organizational drawers and niche shelving at center. The sides continue with the decoratively-carved panels in varying shapes. This French Louis XVI period Secretarie cabinet, circa 1780, stands approximately 7.25 feet in height.
