French Antique Raised Chest, Star Inlay Top
A French bleached-wood raised commode with two drawers, from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique chest from France has been designed in nice, clean/linear lines, allowing the beautifully inlay designs and banding to speak for the simple elegance of this piece. The top features a northern star inlay at its center, framed within thin inlay and banding details about the perimeter. The chest houses two drawers, each continuing the inlay and banding motif, and fitted with beautiful brass Neoclassic hardware consisting of round bail pulls and a bow-tie wreathed escutcheon at center. The skirt has subtle drop and raises near each leg, and again at front center with the addition of three petitely carved triangles. This chest is presented nicely upon four spaded legs. There is a new/custom lightly bleached finish. This late 18th century French raised chest will make an attractive and useful decorative storage piece, versatile enough for a bedroom, living room, or entry hall.
