18th C French Carved & Painted Wood Commode
This Item Is On HoldA French carved and painted wood commode, with faux marble top and Neoclassic hardware, from the 18th century. This antique chest features a hand-painted faux-marble top, over a nicely appointed case which houses three full-sized decoratively paneled and "pillowed" drawers, flanked within fluted front side posts, and raised upon square legs (front pair tapers to their feet). Each of the raised-panel drawers are fitted with beautiful Neoclassic hardware consisting of a pair of round pulls with swagged garland and ribbon motif backplates, with a single escutcheon in the same motif set at center, within a circular-carved decorative accent panel. An ornamental trim further embellishes the front, between the bottom drawer and straight skirt-line. The painted finish, which is older but not original, is a soft blue/green with creamy undertones, which contrast nicely against the darker faux-marble top. This 18th century French commode will make a splendid case piece, beautiful enough to use in just about any room in your home!
