Italian Petite Serpentine Commodini, 19th C
An Italian pair of small serpentine side chests, with decorative inlay, veneers, and banding, from the 19th century. These antique petite-sized chests from Italy each feature curvy serpentine bodies embellished about their top and side in a Siren and shield motif, and about their drawer fronts in a shell and acanthus leaf motif. The case houses "three" graduated drawers, each fitted with a pair of flower head pulls. Lowest drawer is actually a door which opens to reveal a cubie within! See images for more details on this. The chests are raised on carved bracket style feet, creating a nice lift from the ground along the front and sides. This 19th century pair of Italian commodini, with their curvy serpentine silhouettes, would make a wonderful pair of bedroom nightstands, or end tables flanking a sofa.
