French Récamier w/Carved Gilt Frame, 19th C
A French upholstered chaise lounge with large bird carved motif on wood frame, from the 19th century. This antique récamier from France has an elegantly scrolled backrest, and single arm whose knuckle and arm post shape makes one think of an ocean wave forming into a crest. The wood frame is beautifully hand-carved along each side back support with a large waterfowl bird about to make a meal out of a snake. The skirting is clean and linear, with a softly arched form at the footrest. This daybed is raised upon four tapering and conical legs with lamb's-tongue carvings carved about their tops and bottom regions. The upholstery is okay but likely time for a refresher as to make this piece your own. The wood finish is a muted green and earthy color with accents in a bronzed gilt with umber. This 19th century French récamier is a special piece that can easily be floated within a room; perfect for lounging in a salon, bedroom, or a wonderful accent piece for a larger living area.
