English Antique Double Gateleg Wooden Table
An English double gate-leg, round-shaped table with drawer from the early 20th century. This antique table from England features a large round-shaped top with two drop leaves flanking either side, which when down, make this nicely sized table, a more slender 27.5 inches deep profile, allowing it to function more as a larger console or sofa table. The top is raised on a baluster style frame, with nicely turned legs making up a rectangular center with carved box stretcher bracing, from which a pair of matching carved gate legs swing outward from the center, giving support for the upper leaves when the top is fully extended. A single drawer for storage is set into the apron at one side. Scroll-carved accents further adorn the table; as brackets at the undersides of the skirt and between the box stretcher at center bottom. The custom finish has a wash of blue/gray color over the top, with gray wash on base (while still allowing much of the wood grain to show through), and a darker gray trim color. This early 20th century English drop-leaf table offers great functionality, working as a console or large sofa table with leaves down, with the ability to convert into a larger table when needed for group gatherings, extra dining or additional work space is desired.
