Late 18th C. Italian Iron-Stretcher Table
An Italian two-drawer table with iron stretcher from the late 18th century. This antique walnut table from Italy has a rectangular-shaped top, which overhangs the apron below which houses a pair of drawers at one long side, which are carved in a repeating diamond-shaped motif. Fluted accents are carved at the apron above each of the four legs, which are rounded also fluted with lovely bellflower carved inlays. There are nicely carved wooden posts which brace each pair of legs at the shorter ends. And a pair of hand-forged iron stretchers, adorn with disc-shaped pieces, add further support, crossing in elegant fashion at the underside of this piece. The wood has it's original finish- a warm, rich color with nicely aged patina. This handsome late 18th century Italian table has a leg clearance of 19.5", making it a more functional option as a console or occasional table.
