French Desk w/Shell Carved Motif, 19th C.
A beautiful French painted wood two-drawer desk, with fabulous shell motif carvings, from the 19th century. This antique table from France features a rectangular top, just shy of 4.5 feet in length, which overhangs and rests atop an apron which houses two deep recessed-panel drawers (flanking the seated center), and raised panels at each short end. However, the front side of this desk is absolutely alluring- with its whimsically carved panels in a delightful motif of shells with leave and flowers. There are a pair of clustered leaves carved onto smaller plaques that project outwardly at either side of the front. The table is raised upon four nicely-turned legs, which are supported just above their feet with an H-shaped stretcher beam. There is a custom finish with a light taupe color which still allows much of the wood grain to show through, and complimented with highlights about the trim and various accents. Clearance from apron to floor on front and sides is 17 inches. Clearance at seated center from top to floor is approximately 26.5 inches. This 19th century French desk with shell motif would look just stunning floated within your home office or library!
