Antique Belu "Female" Door, Timor Island
An early 20th century carved wood door panel from Timor Island in the Indonesian archipelago. This antique wall panel from Timor Island (an island at the southern end of Maritime Southeast Asia, north of the Timor Sea) has been hand-carved with two hemispheric, and domed female breasts (a symbol of fertility) which protrude from above a squared center plaque, in the traditional labyrinth carvings of these pieces, carved in whimsically geometric spiral carvings about it's center. This piece has a wonderful aged patina and is presented on a custom black iron stand. This antique Belu female door panel from Timor, standing over 4.5 feet in height (including it's stand), makes a great decorative object to fill a void within a room or corner, while adding architectural interest and texture.
