Island of Timor, Belu Regency Tribal Panel
An early 20th century carved wood door panel from Timor Island in the Indonesian archipelago. This antique wall panel from Timor Island (an island at the southern end of Maritime Southeast Asia, north of the Timor Sea) has been hand-carved with two pairs of hemispheric, and domed female breasts (a symbol of fertility) which flank the upper and lower ends of the raised center plaque, carved in the traditional labyrinth design. This piece is further adorn with culturally rich, ceremonial tribal designs hand-carved into it's front facade. This Belu door has a wonderful aged patina and is presented on a custom black iron stand. This antique tribal door panel from Timor, standing over 5 feet in height (including it's stand), makes a great decorative object to fill a void within a room or corner, while adding architectural interest and texture.
