French Antique Trumeau Mirror w/Painting
A tall French trumeau wood mirror, with oil painting framed atop, from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique mirror from France, in the typical trumeau design, features a tall wooden surround with painting mounted atop a mirror below, and flanked within tall, vertically set decoratively raised-panels; each outlined in bead-and-barrel trim. The upper section is beautifully embellished with a framed oil on canvas painting depicting a maiden surrounded by her dog and sheep, while a man shyly admires her from beyond the tree line, and a lion perches atop a hillside in the distance. The mirror below is framed within a nicely-carved trim molding having leaves with acorn accents, and an inner trim (next to the glass) repeating the same bead-and-barrel trim as the outer panels. Note that the nicely-foxed glass is original and in two pieces, as it was common for glass to be cut into smaller pieces and framed together for the illusion of one, due to a high taxation of glass during this time. This late 18th century French trumeau mirror stands approximately 7.25 feet tall, and will be a fabulous piece to emphasize height in a room with tall ceilings.
