Neoclassic Period French Commode w/Paw Feet
A French Neoclassic painted wood commode with marble top from the early 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped white/gray marble top, above a case designed with clean lines and column-style side posts flanking the doors with Egyptian revival heads and feet. The case houses three graduated full-sized drawers, each adorn with a pair of lion-head ring pulls flanking an escutcheon keyhole within their center. The chest is raised upon a pair of carved-wood paw feet at front, with squared legs at backside. There is a custom off-white finish with gray and hint of blue accents, and gold on the female busts. This early 19th century French commode with Neoclassical and Egyptian revival design elements, is a great case piece for a bedroom, though versatile enough for an entry or other living area.
