Neoclassic Period French Two Drawer Commode
A French Neoclassic carved wood raised commode from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. This antique chest from France has a slightly overhanging top with rounded front corners, with case housing two drawers flanked within fluted front side posts. The drawers are each carved in a geometric style pattern and fitted with their original elaborate brass Neoclassical hardware. There is a step down design at front center of the skirt, with an outlined carving and fluted accents, and a carved rosette at each front corner. This case-piece is presented upon four squared and tapering legs. The front legs continue the flute carved motif from the side posts down their front sides. There is a taupe finish which has subtle hints of umber around the trim. Please note that the rear legs have had prior repairs. This period Neoclassical French chest, with its flute carved accents and original brass hardware, will make a fabulous storage and display option for an entry foyer, bed or living room.
