Early 19th C. French Buffet à Deux-Corps
A French Louis XV style carved and painted wood buffet à deux-corps display and storage cabinet from the early 19th century. This antique display cabinet from France is crowned with a thickly carved c-scroll arched pediment, above the upper cabinet which is fitted with a pair of glass and decoratively-carved panel doors which meet together to form an arch, and are fitted with elaborate brass hardware. The lower cabinet, which is slightly wider and deeper than the upper case, houses a pair of beautifully paneled wood doors that are fitted with matching brass hardware, and open for more discreet storage within. The skirt is carved along three sides, with front having a slight drop/emphasis at it's center. This piece is presented upon cabriole legs at front with squared legs at rear. This French buffet à deux-corps cabinet (which literally translates to “buffet with two bodies”) breaks down into two pieces, allowing for easier transport and installation. This piece has a subtle wash of creamy beige which still allows much of the wood grain to show through from beneath. This early 19th century French cabinet is quite versatile, and will function as a lovely display and storage piece for just about any room of your home!
