French Period Neoclassical Marble Top Chest
A French Neoclassical period five-drawer, carved-wood chest with marble top from the early 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped marble top, with pronounced rounded front corners, which rests atop a neoclassical case that houses three smaller-sized drawers set horizontally across the top, over two full sized drawers, flanked within rounded and flute-carved side posts. The dove-tailed drawers (5 in all) have recessed-panel fronts, with upper drawers fitted with keyhole escutcheons, and the larger drawers below being fitted with a pair of brass ring-pulls with backplates and a keyhole escutcheon set at their centers. This commode is presented upon tapering, flute carved conical legs, designed with really well done proportions with the chest, that terminate into brass feet. This piece has a natural finish, which is complimented by the black, grey, and white marble top. This period Neoclassical French chest-of-drawers with marble top is a wonderful case-piece, which will function beautifully in the home; offering storage within and a place for desired objects to be prominently displayed atop.
