French Neoclassical Expandable-Top Console
A French Neoclassical carved-wood console table, with expandable flip-top, from the 19th century. This antique table from France has a rectangular-shaped top that can be flipped and slid open so that the size doubles and the table top becomes a more expansive surface. The apron is embellished with a Neoclassic wreath (with side profiled head at center) along the lower center of each longer side, dropping down slightly below the skirt line. Carved flower heads adorn each table corner just about the legs. The table is presented upon four flute-carved squared legs that gently taper to their feet. When the table is fully opened, the top is approximately 32.5 inches x 25.5 inches, and height becomes 28" tall. There is a new custom creamy/taupe finish about the top and various trim. This 19th century French table, with its expandable top, will make a beautiful petite-sized console or end table, with the added ability to double as a card or game table when needed.
