Fabulously Carved French Table w/Marble Top
A French elaborately carved wood table with black/green marble top, from the 19th century. This antique table from France has a rectangular-shaped marble top, which rests atop the highly ornate carved wooden base (carved on all sides!) with apron carved in a repeating H-shaped plaque outline with florals at center and between each piece, and pierce-carved skirting that swags downward with emphasis at each center, in an acanthus leave motif. This piece is presented upon four exquisite pierce-carved legs, primarily squared and tapering, with beautifully embellished with a floral and foliate motif, and wrapped acanthus leaf accents at their ankles and feet. Shapely stretcher bars, carved with a volute and acanthus motif, add support between each ankle at underside of the table, coming together at their intersecting centers with a three dimensional urn carved (wrapped with acanthus leaves), and bottom finial at underside. The black and green marble with white veining is a lovely contrast to the bleached wood finish. Please note that there have been prior repairs to the marble top and that there is a piece missing. This 19th century French table, just over 4 feet in length, would make a fabulous console, or the perfect piece if you are looking for a center table which could be floated within a room.
