French 4.75 Ft Tall Painted Mirror, 19th C.
A French carved and painted wood wall mirror, with its original glass, from the 19th century. This antique mirror from France has a rectangular-shaped wood frame with clean lines about the outer perimeter, a molded top rail, and a series of carved swags (set horizontally across the bottom) nicely anchor the piece. There is a petite bead carved trim about the inner surround, next to the glass, and a lamb's tongue trim surrounding that. The wood has a golden/bronze color, with hints of red showing through on the trim and accents, with frame having more of an earthy taupe w/hint of green color. The glass mirror is original and is in two pieces (as shown in our secondary images). An interesting historical tidbit on why mirrors were often in two parts like this is because it was common for glass to be cut into smaller pieces and framed together for the illusion of one, due to a high taxation of glass during this time. This 19th century French overmantel or wall mirror is approximately 2.5 feet in width, and 4.75 feet in height.
