French Louis XVI Style Fauteuils, 19th C.
A French pair of Louis XVI style, carved-wood and upholstered armchairs from the 19th century. This antique pair of fauteuils (open style armchairs) from France have upholstered backs framed with a beautifully carved crest in floral bouquet motif, squared and floral carved shoulders, and inner frame edged in ribbon trim. A pair of fluted post flank the back, with acanthus leaf wraps, they split off near their tops to slope down and make up the wooden arms, with manchette upholstered pads, terminating into scrolled knuckles adorn with wrapped acanthus leaves. The acanthus carved and concaved front arm rails continue down to the seat rail, resting upon petite fluted pillars. The nicely padded seats are framed with a bowed front seat rail that is embellished with ribbon carved trim. Flower head medallions flank the skirt sides, just above the knees, which give way to the rounded, flute-carved legs carved with peg feet. The chairs have a creamy white painted finish, complimented with a white and brown/gold leopard print fabric (looks to be in usable condition should you wish to keep). These 19th century French Louis XV style armchairs would be a perfect pair for a reading and conversation area within a bedroom.
