French Neoclassical Marble Top Commode
A French Neoclassical style chest, with its original marble top and hardware, from the early 20th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped gray marble top with softly rounded front corners, which rests atop a neoclassical style case that houses a pair of half-size drawers over two full-sized drawers (for a total of four drawers), flanked within rounded and flute-carved side posts. The recessed-panel drawers are fitted with the original brass hanging bail-pull handles and oval escutcheons set at their centers. This commode is presented upon conical, flute-carved legs that taper down onto brass feet. This piece has a custom light grey wash on the drawers and trim, which still allows much of the natural wood grain to show through, and compliments the natural finish throughout the remainder of the body. The original marble top is grey with white veining, and looks like there may have been a prior professional repair to it. This early 20th century French Neoclassic style chest-of-drawers is a beautiful case-piece that could function well throughout your home; offering storage within and a place for desired objects to be prominently displayed atop.
